Katrin Lazar - Curriculum Vitae

Katrin Lazar studied recorder with Michael Schneider and historical bassoon with Christian Beuse at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. As a DAAD scholarship recipient, she furthered her studies in historical performance practice at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In 2004, she was bassoonist of the EUBO (European Union Baroque Orchestra). Since then, her concert tours as a sought-after orchestral and chamber musician, as well as a soloist, have taken her around the world. Numerous recordings document her musical versatility. Katrin is a permanent ensemble member of The English Concert, the Munich Court Orchestra, and the Munich Baroque Soloists. She also collaborates regularly with many other leading early music ensembles, including the Academy for Ancient Music Berlin, the Stuttgart Bach Academy, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, and the Italian orchestra Il Pomo d'Oro. As a university lecturer in historical bassoon, she taught at the Trossingen University of Music, the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, and the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK). Since 2016, she has taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.

Course Description

This course is aimed at music students and trained Baroque bassoonists – and, by arrangement, also at advanced amateurs and bassoonists transitioning from a modern instrument.

• Working on finger dexterity, articulation, breathing, and intonation.

• Making and fitting reeds

• Repertoire focus: “England 1680–1760,” e.g., solo sonatas by Galliard, Mercy, and Paxton, chamber music of the High Baroque, and, of course, your own repertoire suggestions are welcome!
