Györgyi Farkas performs worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician and member of renowned orchestras. For many years there has been a regular collaboration with the English Baroque Soloists (principal bassoon) under Sir John Eliot Gardiner, with the Collegium 1704 Prague under Václav Luks, with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (principal bassoon) and with the Bachakademie Stuttgart under Hans-Christoph Rademann.

Born in Budapest, Györgyi Farkas studied music theory and bassoon at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in her hometown. Her interest in early music led her to Switzerland at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where she studied historical bassoon in the class of Claude Wassmer and graduated with a soloist diploma in 1997. She then completed postgraduate studies at the Frankfurt Musikhochschule with Christian Beuse.

Györgyi Farkas heads the class for historical bassoon instruments at the University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig. She was a juror at the EUBO selection course and is a lecturer at several master courses. Numerous CD recordings document her musical activity as a specialist for historical bassoons.
