In addition to the standard repertoire, he particularly enjoys discovering unknown composers and their works. He premiered some of them, such as the cello concerto by Heinrich Kaspar Schmid. in 2014, a CD with world premiere recordings of the suites for solo cello by Julius Klengel, Hugo Becker and Paul Tortelier was released to high praise from audiences and the specialist press. in 1991 Markus Wagner was appointed head of a cello class at the Leopold Mozart Conservatory in Augsburg. After being appointed professor in 2001, he moved to the Nuremberg University of Music in 2007. Many of his former students are now active in orchestral positions in Europe, Asia and North America.
